YouTube TV rolling out surround sound to more platforms

Google-owned streaming service YouTube TV says it is rolling out surround sound support for more devices this week.

Last year, YouTube TV said it would offer 5.1-channel surround sound on supported channels for a handful of platforms, including Samsung’s Tizen OS, Vizio SmartCast and LG WebOS.

Starting this week, the surround sound perk rolls out to more platforms, including some Android TV (Google TV), Chromecast and Roku devices. A spokesperson for YouTube TV said the feature is not compatible with the Nvidia Shield streaming TV device, which runs a variant of Google TV.

The company says it is working to bring the feature to Apple TV and Amazon’s Fire TV hardware, as well as Xbox and PlayStation game consoles where YouTube TV is available.
