Budget-conscious streaming television service Philo says it has added several new channels based on customer feedback.
The new channels – Me TV, Heroes & Icons and Story Television — were added to its lineup of over 80 streaming television channels on Tuesday as part of its base subscription package.
The networks are owned by Weigel Broadcasting and join two other Weigel-owned channels — Start TV and Decades — that Philo added to its roster in June.
In a blog post published on Tuesday, Philo said customers have streamed “hundreds of thousands of hours” worth of content across Decades and Start TV.
Now, Philo customers will have even more general entertainment, lifestyle and knowledge programming to pick from.
Me TV is Weigel’s flagship network and includes classic shows like “MASH,” “The Flintstones,” “the Andy Griffith Show” and a reboot of the classic horror franchise “Svengoolie!”
Story Television is Weigel’s newest network, offering fact-based history programming, including “Biography,” “Hands on History,” “Mummy Forensics” and “Ancient Mysteries.”
Heroes & Icons pretty much speaks for itself: The channel focuses on re-runs that are rooted in good-guy-versus-bad-guy storylines. Shows such as “Star Trek,” “Batman,” “Superman,” “JAG” and “Monk” are staples of the Heroes & Icons schedule.
Philo says the three new channels were added on Tuesday at no additional cost to subscribers. The service includes access to cable networks owned by Paramount Global (except the CBS broadcast and cable stations), A+E Networks, AMC Networks and Warner Bros Discovery (minus the Turner-owned channels), along with Bloomberg, Revry, Get TV, Cheddar News, Crackle and a handful of other independent networks.
Philo costs $25 a month for its base subscription of service, with movie networks Starz and Epix available for a separate fee. A “Movies & More” package unlocks a handful of film-centric channels for an additional $3 a month.
All tiers of service include an unlimited cloud DVR that stores shows and movies for one year, plus the ability to add 10 individual profiles to a single account. Philo allows three simultaneous streams at any given time, making it easy for the whole family to watch what they want, when they want.
The service is available on most popular streaming platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV) and Apple TV, as well as on Android- and Apple iOS-powered smartphones and tablets.
