Allen Media’s Local Now adds NBC News streams

Allen Media Group’s free, ad-supported streamer Local Now has reached an agreement with Comcast’s NBC Universal to bring three NBC News-produced digital channels to its service.

The channels — NBC News Now, Today All Day and Dateline 24/7 — became available this week on Local Now, the companies said in a joint press release on Monday.

“Adding these three excellent NBC News [free, ad-supported streaming television] channels is another milestone achievement for Allen Media Group as we continue expanding the Local Now channel content,” Byron Allen, the founder and chairman of Allen Media Group, said. “NBC is an outstanding brand in both news and entertainment, so this collaboration is an obvious choice for Allen Media Group to give our viewers the ability to stream this amazing content for free, anytime on Local Now.”

The addition of the channels comes after Allen Media said it had forged a unique distribution agreement with public broadcaster PBS for streams of local member stations, becoming the first free streaming service to offer the streams beyond PBS’ own app.

In addition to the NBC News content, Local News has offers streaming news from the E.W. Scripps Company (Scripps News, Court TV), Hearst Television (Very Local), Cox Media Group, Bloomberg News, Altice U.S. (Cheddar News) and stations owned by Allen Media Broadcasting.
