Smart TVs made by Samsung and powered by the company’s Tizen operating system now have access to Comcast and Paramount’s streaming service Sky Showtime in Europe.
The rollout of the Sky Showtime app makes the service available on more than 90 million Samsung-branded smart TVs on the continent, and comes ahead of Sky Showtime’s launch in Andorra and Spain on February 28.
“In the space of just five months, Sky Showtime has launched in over 20 markets across Europe,” Monty Sarhan, Sky Showtime’s chief executive, said in a statement this week. “I’m extremely proud of the entire team who have worked so hard to make this a reality. We are dedicated to these markets and excited to bring new customers the entertainment they love at a price they will love. From the latest series and blockbuster movies from our iconic and world-renowned studios to original programming, Sky Showtime is the next great streaming service for Europe.”
Sky Showtime operates as a joint venture between Comcast’s NBC Universal and Paramount Global. It uses the same streaming technology as Comcast’s domestic service, Peacock, but offers an expanded library of TV shows and movies that includes content from Paramount’s Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Paramount Network brands.
Some popular shows available on Sky Showtime include NBC’s hit sitcom “The Office,” Paramount Network’s western serial “Yellowstone” and last summer’s blockbuster film “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Sky Showtime costs around $5 to $7 per month in each market’s local currency, though some streaming customers have access to the service for free if they subscribe to certain cable, satellite or IPTV pay television services.
