Radio company iHeartMedia has snagged Amazon executive Jon Kurland to serve as its next chief entertainment counsel and executive vice president of business affairs, starting this week.

Kurland’s hiring was announced in a press release Monday. At iHeartMedia, Kurland will oversee business and legal affairs matters on behalf of the audio entertainment company, to include iHeartMedia’s podcasts, live events and new media initiatives.

“Jon’s vast experience and dealmaking skills in the audio industry will be incredibly valuable as we continue to innovate and expand our partnerships and opportunities that leverage and enhance iHeartMedia’s position as the leading audio company in the U.S.,” Jordan Fasbender, Kurland’s manager at iHeartMedia and the company’s top general counsel, said in a statement.

Kurland joined Amazon in September 2017 and was focused primarily on legal matters concerning Audible, Amazon’s audiobook and podcast product. He was elevated to the role of senior corporate counsel at Audible nearly two years ago. Prior to working at Amazon, Kurland worked as an attorney focused on media and entertainment matters for several private law firms, mostly based in New York City.

“As the top audio company in America, iHeartMedia is uniquely positioned at the convergence of music, podcasting, live events, television and all manner of innovative digital media,” Kurland said on Monday. “I’m thrilled to leverage my legal and dealmaking expertise across a wide range of formats and platforms to unlock value for the company, while also empowering artists and creators and serving iHeartMedia’s millions of listeners.”

Kurland will work for iHeartMedia out of the company’s New York City office.
