Amazon has added more than a dozen NBC and Telemundo local news streams to the Amazon News app on its Fire TV devices, officials at NBC Universal announced on Friday.

The streams — 14 in total — are operated by NBC- and Telemundo-owned local broadcast stations throughout the country, covering major metropolitan areas like New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Philadelphia, San Diego and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The new NBC and Telemundo local news streams added today to the Amazon News app are:

  • NBC Bay Area News (San Francisco)
  • NBC Boston News
  • NBC Connecticut News (Hartford)
  • NBC Dallas News
  • NBC Los Angeles News
  • NBC New York News
  • NBC Philadelphia News
  • NBC San Diego News
  • NBC South Florida News (Miami)
  • NBC Washington, D.C. News
  • Noticias Telemundo Noreste (New York City)
  • Noticias Telemundo California (Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco)
  • Noticias Telemundo Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth)
  • Noticias Telemundo Florida (Miami)

The deal comes at a time when NBC Universal is focused on gaining more distribution for its local news streams, while Amazon is working to incorporate more content into its newly-launched Fire TV Channels service.

“We are excited to grow our existing partnership with Amazon, expanding the reach of our local news content to millions of people on Fire TV and Echo Show devices,” Matt Schnaars, the president of NBC Universal’s content distribution division, said in a statement. “News continues to be a top choice for viewers, and we are proud to reach new audiences with best-in-class journalism from our local stations.”

“We are thrilled to bring our NBC and Telemundo stations’ local news, weather and community information to Fire TV audiences and Echo Show users,” Meredit McGinn, the executive vice president in charge of digital networks and local production at NBC Universal Local, said on Friday. “Powered by our NBC and Telemundo stations in the country’s top TV regions, our local news streaming channels deliver a premium news offering for English and Spanish-speakers, and we cannot wait to introduce our respected news brands to Amazon’s streaming audiences.”

Amazon News is a streaming content aggregator that offers Fire TV users immediate access to local and national news, weather and related current events programming. In addition to the NBC and Telemundo streams available today, local news content is available from more than 300 different providers covering 250 major metropolitan areas across the United States.

In addition to Amazon News, NBC Universal’s local news streams are also available on Samsung TV Plus, the Roku Channel and Comcast’s Xumo Play. All three services are free to use. A handful of NBC Universal’s streaming news channels are also available on the subscription service Peacock, which costs $5 a month.

Like other services, Amazon News also provides access to NBC Universal’s streaming national news and fact-based channels, including NBC News Now, Today All Day and Dateline 24/7.
