Disney licenses shows to Channel 4 streaming service

The Walt Disney Company has agreed to license a handful of its television comedies, dramas and thrillers to British network Channel 4 for its streaming service.

The deal will allow Channel 4 to distribute five seasons of the ABC show “Alias,” all 11 seasons of the Fox sci-fi thriller “The X-Files,” six seasons of comedy “Grown-ish” and past episodes of “Abbott Elementary,” among other shows.

“We’re so pleased to have agreed such an extensive content deal with Disney, ranging from their most iconic series like X Files to fresh hits such as Abbott Elementary and Star,” Nick Lee, the head of content acquisitions at Channel 4, said on Tuesday. “We look forward to our viewers being able to binge series after series on Channel 4.”

The series will start streaming on Channel 4 later this month, with more shows being added in the future. The streaming variant of Channel 4 was known as All 4 until the network unified its various media distribution pipelines under a single brand last year.

Disney also offers a localized variant of its Disney Plus streaming service in the United Kingdom, which includes the brand’s classic animated films; Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel movies; and some general entertainment content.
