Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) will start selling standalone subscriptions to its general entertainment streaming service Max through Google’s digital marketplace YouTube Primetime Channels on Friday.
The move will make Max available to YouTube streamers who prefer watching as much content through the platform as possible, and unlocks shows from WBD brands like the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), HGTV, the Discovery Channel and CNN along with movies from Warner Bros Pictures and other film studios.
“YouTube Primetime Channels lets viewers subscribe and watch content from their favorite streaming services right on the YouTube app,” a WBD spokesperson wrote in a press release on Tuesday. “With over 45 channels, users can browse, sign up for and watch their favorite shows, movies, sports and more. With so many streaming options today, Primetime Channels makes it easier for viewers to easily watch content from multiple streaming services without having to jump from app to app, while also managing their subscriptions all in one place.”
The version of Max that will be offered through YouTube Primetime Channels is the $16 per month Premium tier, which offers commercial-free streaming of Max movies and TV shows along with access to the streaming feed of CNN International (branded as “CNN Max”) and live sports.
In addition to being sold directly through the Max app and website, Max is also available as a third-party add-on to Amazon’s Prime Video through the Amazon Prime Video Channels marketplace.
