Philo this week incorporated six more ad-supported streaming channels into its base programming package, unlocking even more content options for its wallet-conscious subscribers.

The channels rolling out to Philo customers this week include Weigel Broadcasting’s Black-centric comedy channel Dabl as well as four channels programmed by investor-owner AMC Networks.

The six channels debuting on Philo this week are:

  • Dabl (Weigel Broadcasting)
  • Growing up Hip Hop We TV (AMC Networks FAST)
  • MSG SportsZone (AMC Networks FAST)
  • Overtime (AMC Networks FAST)
  • Scares by Shudder (AMC Networks FAST)
  • TV One Crime & Justice (TV One Networks)

The channels will be available under the Free section of Philo’s electronic program guide (EPG), though the “free” branding is kind of a misnomer, since Philo requires a subscription to its $25-per-month base programming package to view them.

Philo is also moving one other channel — BBC News — from the main section of its EPG to the “Free” section, following AMC’s decision to offer the channel to free, ad-supported platforms like Xumo Play and Plex last month.

The inclusion of the new channels brings the total number of free and paid channel options to over 140, which includes 70 premium networks programmed by A+E Networks (A&E, History Channel, Lifetime), AMC Networks (AMC, IFC, BBC America, Sundance), Paramount Global (Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, VH1, TV Land) and Warner Bros Discovery (Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Science Channel).

Subscribers are able to watch live and on-demand programming from Philo’s channels on up to three devices at once, and the service allows customers to have 10 individual profiles, each with its own unique cloud DVR that stores recorded programming for at least 12 months. The cloud DVR feature works on free, ad-supported streaming channels, too, setting Philo apart from other platforms.

Philo is supported across all major streaming TV platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV), Apple TV and newer-model Samsung and Vizio smart TVs. The Philo app is also available for Apple and Android-powered phones and tablets.

New customers can try Philo free for seven days when they sign up by clicking or tapping this link.
