Streaming services Starz and Britbox have joined forces on a new subscription bundle that will save customers money while allowing them to watch content from both platforms.
The bundle, available to purchase through the Starz website, costs $15 per month, which the companies bill as a savings of 25 percent compared to the individual monthly price of each service.
The website The Streaming Wars earlier this week reported that Starz and Britbox were readying plans to announce a bundle by Thursday.
“It’s a transformative time in the industry, but what audiences want remains the same: authentic, bold, exceptional storytelling,” said Robert Schildhouse, the President of Britbox North America and the General Manager of Britbox International. “BritBox is excited to launch its first-ever bundle with Starz, allowing us to introduce the inimitable qualities of British TV to a new audience.”
The partnership comes at a time when third-party streaming services are increasingly looking toward bundles in order to grow their individual offerings and retain customers, all while offering customers ways to save money. Earlier this year, Disney announced it was joining forces with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) on a streaming bundle that combined access to Disney Plus, Max and Hulu for $17 per month (or $30 per month for ad-free streaming).
For Starz and Britbox, the combination helps two companies that have smaller subscription bases relative to bigger services like Netflix, Prime Video, Max and Comcast’s Peacock. Starz has under 30 million worldwide subscribers, while Britbox has around 4 million subscribers, according to corporate disclosures.
“Partnerships have always been key for us as a complementary premium service, and we are excited to now offer bundles through our own retail platform,” Alison Hoffman, the President of Starz Networks, said on Thursday. “We believe this expanded offering adds value for adult audiences seeking prestige, high-quality premium programming and provides an incredibly seamless and low-friction consumer experience.”
