The E. W. Scripps Company on Monday said it has hired Adam Harman to serve as its Senior Vice President of Programming, starting this week.
In his role, Harman will be responsible for programming and content strategies on Scripps-owned broadcast, multicast and streaming networks, including Ion, which the company said was the fifth top general entertainment network in 2024 and the most-streamed on the Google TV platform.
Harman joins Scripps from A+E Networks, the joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and Hearst Television, where he spent 11 years shaping the programming and content strategies of channels like A&E, History Channel, Lifetime and Vice TV. Prior to his time at A+E Networks, he worked for NBC Universal’s now-defunct Style Network and began his career at the Hallmark Channel.
“As Scripps continues to evolve its content strategy to connect with audiences and advertisers on every platform, Adam is an ideal leader to steer our programming team,” Keisha Taylor Starr, the Chief Marketing Officer at Scripps, said in a statement on Monday. “Adam has the ability to seek out the bold and impactful content consumers crave, and his industry relationships will help Scripps continue delivering it to our audiences wherever they tune-in.”
Over the past few years, Scripps has placed more of an emphasis on programming its multicast and streaming networks, including Ion and offshoots like Ion Plus, Ion Mystery, as well as Court TV, Laff and Grit. In addition to general entertainment, Scripps has beefed up its offering of lifestyle and knowledge shows, and infused more live sports rights through the development of its Scripps Sports business.
“The Scripps brand has built tremendous equity through its rich history of innovation and its ability to connect with consumers in a trusted and meaningful way,” Harman said. “Their dedication to a wide range of compelling programming for both audiences and advertisers is something I’m excited to build upon as we work to engage the next generation of media consumers. I’m thrilled to join a team that shares my passion for delivering a top-tier viewer experience while also creating exceptional value and new opportunities for advertisers.”
Harman will continue to be based in the Los Angeles area.
