At a time when subscription streaming services seem to raise their prices on a regular basis, it is somewhat refreshing to see a sports-inclusive streaming service go in the opposite direction.
On Tuesday, New England Sports Network (NESN) said it will reduce the cost of its subscription service, NESN 360, for sports fans who opt for annual billing instead of monthly charges.
The price of NESN 360’s annual plan is now $240 per year, substantially lower than the $320 per year the broadcaster used to charge for ongoing access to games from the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins.
The monthly price of NESN 360 will remain $30 per month, but NESN is incentivizing the annual plan by including Red Sox tickets for “eligible annual subscribers,” the broadcaster said. According to a terms webpage reviewed by The Desk, up to four home game tickets per season will be made available to customers who purchase an annual subscription after February 21, while supplies last.
The price adjustment for the annual plan actually kicked in last week, but the company did not disclose it publicly until Tuesday. In addition to NESN 360, the broadcaster also has a free, ad-supported streaming channel, NESN Nation, which offers shoulder programming related to the Red Sox and Bruins, along with live sports from other franchises.
