Streaming technology firm OTTera has partnered with global film distributor Blue Pictures Entertainment to launch a new free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel dedicated to premium Nollywood content.

The channel, called AVAZ, involves Nigerian film director Joy Efe Odiete, who will work with OTTera and Blue Pictures to transform the channel into a premium destination for Nollywood films and TV shows. “Nollywood” is a portmanteau of “Nigeria” and “Hollywood.”

AVAZ has already secured distribution on VIDAA TV’s FAST platform, VIDAA Channels, making the channel instantly available in South Africa and other markets. The FAST channel will also be available through Afroland TV, a streaming platform that offers Black cinema and TV shows in Africa.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Blue Pictures Entertainment and Joy Efe Odiete to bring AVAZ to a global audience,” Stephen Hodge, the CEO of OTTera, said on Wednesday. “This partnership represents our continued commitment to expanding access to premium African content through innovative FAST channel distribution.”

“Nollywood is a powerhouse of storytelling, and AVAZ will serve as a premium platform for audiences to experience the best of our industry,” Odiete said in a statement. “With OTTera’s expertise in global distribution, we are ensuring that Nollywood’s finest content reaches the global audience.”

AVAZ is the first FAST channel to originate in Nigeria, with Odiete serving as the visionary of the service.

“At OTTera South Africa, we are committed to expanding access to high-quality African storytelling, and AVAZ provides an exciting new platform for audiences to engage with premium Nollywood films and series,” Wendy Parkies, the Head of Business Development at OTTera South Africa, said in a statement. “This partnership with Blue Pictures reaffirms our dedication to driving the evolution of African entertainment across digital platforms. As FAST continues to grow as a preferred viewing option, AVAZ is set to elevate the reach of Nollywood, bringing captivating films, series, and diverse content to African and international audiences.”

Based in Los Angeles, OTTera offers various white-label solutions for launching connected TV channels and apps, including FAST content streams. The company works with leading connected TV hardware makers and software developers like Roku, Samsung, LG, Hisense and Plex.
