DirecTV is simplifying its satellite and streaming product line-up by consolidating its various products and packages under a single brand identity.
The DirecTV via Satellite, DirecTV via Internet and DirecTV Streams have been retired in favor of calling all of its pay TV products “DirecTV,” and the website associated with DirecTV has closed in an attempt to streamline its various choices for customers, a spokesperson affirmed this weekend.
Moving forward, the DirecTV website will serve as a central point of reference for the company’s satellite and streaming offerings, including its genre-based packages and free TV service available over the Internet. Customers will be pointed toward the following three products:
- MyFree DirecTV, which offers a line-up of around 100 free, ad-supported streaming TV channels available through the DirecTV apps for phones, tablets, Roku, Samsung smart TVs, Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV) and Apple TV.
- DirecTV’s signature packages, offering classic pay TV plans with a mixture of entertainment, news, sports and local channels, available over satellite and streaming, starting at $85 per month plus taxes and fees.
- DirecTV’s new genre-based packages, a lower-cost option for TV fans who want to pay for a package of channels based on their interests, like entertainment, news or sports. These packages range from $35 per month (MyEntertainment) to $70 per month (MySports), and sometimes include local TV stations, and are available through the DirecTV app.
If customers choose to receive DirecTV service via satellite, they’ll be offered a satellite dish and set-top box capable of receiving the MyFree DirecTV channels and connecting to third-party streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus and YouTube when hooked into a broadband Internet connection. Customers who opt for a streaming pay TV package will be given one of two options:
- Subscribers can download the DirecTV app to an existing device like a Samsung smart TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV or Android TV (Google TV), and watch the channels they pay for, plus over 100 channels from MyFree DirecTV, or
- Customers can add a Gemini Air device to stream content from their DirecTV package and over 100 channels from MyFree DirecTV. The Gemini Air device includes a voice-powered remote control with physical channel buttons, as well as a dedicated DirecTV experience that includes DirecTV’s Universal Search across channels and apps, with personalized content recommendations.

DirecTV customers who opted for the legacy “DirecTV via Internet” Package will continue to have access to their pay TV package, and won’t need to upgrade to the Gemini Air if they already purchased a Gemini set-top box, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to The Desk.
Streaming customers will also enjoy unique connected TV features like “Sports Mode” with game time notifications, pre-game stats and real-time sports scores across their favorite teams.
