Paramount Global’s CBS News & Stations has unveiled its latest innovation in broadcast technology with the launch of a cutting-edge Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) studio at CBS Texas. This marks the eighth AR/VR studio rollout across the CBS Stations group and establishes CBS Texas as the first station in the region to introduce this immersive technology.
The new AR/VR system made its on-air debut at KTVT (Channel 11) during the station’s 5 p.m. newscast. The segment will feature First Alert Chief Meteorologist McKenna King, who will guide viewers through the station’s first immersive weather presentation using the advanced platform.
Occupying approximately 20,384 cubic square feet, the studio is designed to elevate storytelling with realistic visuals and immersive simulations. This enhanced approach aims to improve audience understanding of complex weather patterns and other detailed content through engaging, data-driven visualizations.
“Over the past year, we’ve evolved every part of our newsroom — from refreshing our newscasts, updating our brand, and building a multiplatform coverage strategy,” said Raquel Amparo, the President and General Manager at KTVT. “This technology is the next chapter and allows us to enhance meaningful content for everyone we serve.”
This rollout follows similar successful implementations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Denver and Miami, as CBS News & Stations continues its strategic investment in next-generation broadcast tools.
