Key Points:

  • As part of its 5th anniversary celebration, Walmart Plus is adding Comcast’s Peacock as a new streaming partner.
  • The ad-supported Peacock Premium will be available to Walmart Plus subscribers from September 15; streamers can choose between Peacock Premium or Paramount Plus Essentials, and switch services every three months.
  • Walmart Plus costs $13 per month or $98 per year after a free trial (available by clicking or tapping here); Peacock Premium is priced at $11 per month on its own, while Paramount Plus Essentials typically costs $8 per month.

Walmart is kicking off the fifth anniversary of its Walmart Plus membership service by adding a new streaming partner into the mix.

Starting September 15, Walmart Plus members will be able to unlock a complementary subscription to Comcast’s streaming service Peacock Premium as part of their membership. The ad-supported plan offers streaming access to shows from NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, USA Network, E! and SyFy along with live sports from NBC Sports (including Sunday Night Football, NBA games, NASCAR races and other live athletic events) and news from NBC News.

The addition of Peacock Premium adds to the streaming perks available to Walmart Plus members. Three years ago, Walmart Plus inked an agreement to offer its members free access to Paramount Plus Essentials, the ad-supported tier of that service, which includes live news and sports from CBS along with entertainment from the network, MTV, VH1, BET, TV Land and Paramount Pictures.

Walmart says its Walmart Plus members will only have access to one service at a time — either Paramount Plus Essentials or the ad-supported tier of Peacock Premium — but they can switch between services every 30 days.

“The additional option of Peacock Premium adds even more value and more choice to our membership, without raising the price,” Deepak Maini, the Senior Vice President of Walmart Plus, said in a statement on Monday. “By offering the ability to switch between two top-tier video streaming services, we’re empowering our members to customize their entertainment experience and enjoy significant savings. This is just one of the many ways we’re evolving Walmart Plus to meet the needs and wants of today’s consumer.”

“This expanded partnership strengthens our collaboration across the NBC Universal enterprise with Walmart and gives Walmart Plus members seamless access to the wide variety of Peacock’s entertainment offering,” said Matt Schnaars, the President of Platform Distribution and Partnerships at Comcast’s NBC Universal, which operates Peacock. “Whether it’s live sports like the upcoming NBA season, Sunday Night Football, Emmy-winning reality series like ‘The Traitors,’ original series including ‘The Paper,’ or blockbuster films, Peacock has something for everyone.”

“Our partnership with Walmart has been a tremendous success in delivering Paramount Plus as the first premium entertainment streaming service benefit for Walmart+ members,” said Ray Hopkins, the President of U.S. Distribution at Paramount. “We’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone anniversary with the extension of our partnership, continuing to bring blockbuster movies, iconic franchises, hit originals, and championship sports from our leading portfolio to one of the largest and most engaged member bases in the country.”

Walmart Plus costs $13 per month or $98 per year, and includes free same-day delivery on grocery and household orders of $35 or more from Walmart stores, Walmart Supercenter and Walmart Neighborhood Market, plus two-day shipping on thousands of items from the Walmart online store.

Peacock Premium recently implemented a price increase and now costs $11 per month for its sports-inclusive, ad-supported tier, and counts 41 million paid subscribers. Paramount Plus Essentials costs $8 per month, and serves 77 million subscribers in the U.S. and other countries where the app is available.
