Entravision Communications has selected Mark Boelke to serve as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer, succeeding veteran broadcast executive Jeffrey Liberman in the role, the company revealed on Monday.
In a filing with federal finance regulators, Entravision confirmed Liberman’s employment with the company was “terminated” last week, as first reported by The Desk. Boelke already serves as Entravision’s Chief Financial Officer and will add the COO title and responsibilities, the company affirmed.
No reason was given for Liberman’s firing, which occurred on February 19. He will be entitled to severance payments. Liberman joined Entravision in 2001 after the company acquired another broadcaster called Latin Communications.
In a career that dates back to the 1970s, Liberman primarily worked on the radio side of the business, though his most-recent role at Entravision involved oversight of a handful of local TV stations primarily affiliated with Univision and Unimas as well. Entravision also owns a few Fox and CW Network affiliates, and the NBC affiliate in Palm Springs.
Boelke steps into the role after serving as Entravision’s CFO for a little under two years. He previously served as Entravision’s general counsel, joining the broadcaster in 2005 after working as an attorney at a private practice law firm.
The appointment of Boelke to the COO comes about three years after Entravision appointed Michael Christenson as its new Chief Operating Officer, a move that occurred a few months after the company’s founder died from a heart attack.
