The BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Review Board (NARB) says T-Mobile should modify certain promotional claims that imply the company’s satellite-based phone coverage is better than what customers may find in the real world.
In a challenge brought by AT&T, the NARB upheld some of T-Mobile’s advertising claims related to the price of its wireless phone service that includes satellite-based connectivity, but said the company should modify or discontinue promotional claims that “if customers can see the sky, they’re connected [to T Satellite]” and “no matter where you are, you will never miss a moment.”
Those promotional claims, and others, imply that T-Mobile customers will have phone and data coverage, including via satellite, no matter where they are, as long as the sky is visible. The National Advertising Division (NAD) earlier determined that the claims weren’t supported because they suggested T-Mobile offers universal coverage, something not supported by evidence.
T-Mobile appealed an earlier challenge from NAD, which sent the matter to the NARB, which upheld the decision.
T-Mobile says it will comply with the findings of the NARB.
