British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) has selected Synamedia as its strategic technology partner to develop a new global digital media platform that will serve members of the British Armed Forces and their families around the world.

The appointment follows a competitive international tender process launched in February 2025 that attracted bids from technology and media companies across the industry. BFBS said the project marks the beginning of its most significant technology transformation in more than 80 years.

The agreement comes shortly after the U.K. Ministry of Defense renewed BFBS’ contract for an additional 10 years, extending the organization’s role as a provider of news, entertainment and information services to military personnel stationed in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Synamedia will lead the development of a new digital ecosystem currently operating under the working title “The Hub.” The platform is intended to modernize how BFBS delivers content while consolidating its existing services into a single, secure experience.

According to BFBS, the project will be introduced in phases and ultimately offer a streaming experience comparable to leading over-the-top video services. The platform will support personalized access across multiple devices, incorporate new content formats beyond traditional broadcasting and provide secure delivery tailored to military audiences.

The selection followed a technical evaluation process supported by digital transformation consultancy Spicy Mango.

BFBS offers domestic British television and radio programs to members of the military and their families stationed around the world. The operation sources its content from leading British broadcasters like the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Paramount’s Channel 5 and Comcast’s Sky Group, among others.

The broadcaster is similar to the American Forces Network (AFN), which provides radio and TV service to members of the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
