The E. W. Scripps Company has inked a distribution deal with the parent company of the free streaming app Local Now to add more of its digital channels to the service, the companies announced on Tuesday.
Starting this week, the Local Now app now includes access to the national streaming feeds of Scripps-owned multicast networks Ion, Ion Plus and Ion Mystery, along with digital channels Laff More, Grit Xtra and Bounce LX, which largely carry the same programming as multicast networks Laff, Grit and Bounce.
Local Now will also offer the Scripps Sports Network, which Scripps launched last month as a repository for live events offered by Ion. Scripps Sports also includes shoulder programming and event replays.
The app already offered Scripps News, a 24-hour digital news channel that includes national and international news reports interspersed with local news packages from Scripps-owned broadcast TV stations across the country.
The Local Now app is widely supported on phones, tablets and smart TVs, including devices powered by Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android (Google TV) and Apple’s iOS.
