Synamedia is rolling out an updated version of its Quortex PowerVu platform with the hopes of positioning it as a lower-cost, IP-native alternative to traditional satellite-based delivery for broadcast feeds.

The new release shifts station workflows to a software-based architecture that uses edge processing and standard IP delivery, enabling broadcasters to assemble localized linear channels without the need for legacy decode and re-encode infrastructure, Synamedia said in a statement on Monday. The approach can reduce operational costs and complexity by up to 80 percent while improving resiliency and enabling more granular ad and promo control.

The new platform is being demonstrated at a trade show in Nevada later this month.

Quortex PowerVu distributes national feeds to affiliates over a content delivery network, allowing stations to build customized services at the edge using only required components. The model replaces traditional workflows where stations decode a national feed, insert local elements and re-encode signals for over-the-air and MVPD distribution.

By shifting playout functions closer to the edge, the system also enables new monetization opportunities, including dynamic ad insertion and large-scale localization.

A centralized cloud platform dynamically generates station-specific schedules, reducing reliance on local infrastructure. In many deployments, Synamedia said only a 1:1 Media Edge Gateway is required on-site, lowering capital and operating expenses, as well as energy usage.

“Broadcast stations have long relied on complex and costly infrastructure to process and distribute content,” said Elke Hungenaert, the Vice President of Product Management at Synamedia. “With this new version of Quortex PowerVu, we’re replacing that model with IP delivery and edge playout, giving stations a simpler, more flexible way to operate while maintaining full control and resilience.”

The update builds on Synamedia’s broader distribution portfolio, including Quortex PowerVu, MEG, Quortex Link and ATSC 3.0 solutions. The company said the platform already supports a significant portion of U.S. C-band video distribution across satellite, IP and hybrid networks.

The launch comes as broadcasters accelerate plans to transition away from satellite infrastructure, driven in part by potential C-band spectrum reallocation and the need for more scalable, flexible delivery models.
