  • “CBS News Atlanta at Noon” is anchored by T.J. Anthony and meteorologist Johnathan Myers.
  • The program focuses on breaking news, weather, traffic, consumer reporting and community coverage across metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
  • The launch increases WUPA’s local news output as CBS continues investing in locally-produced programming.

WUPA, the CBS-owned local television station in Atlanta, has launched a new afternoon local newscast that is part of the station’s ongoing effort to expand the availability of local news across platforms.

“CBS News Atlanta at Noon” premiered this week and is anchored by T.J. Anthony alongside WUPA (Channel 69) meteorologist Johnathan Myers.

Tom Canedo, the President and General Manager of WUPA, said the addition of a midday newscast represents another step in building the station’s local news presence.

“Since launching our local news operation, we have remained focused on building a strong community-centered news brand for viewers across metro Atlanta and North Georgia,” Canedo said. “Adding a live noon newscast is another important step in that growth, giving audiences more opportunities to access trusted local news, weather and information throughout the day.”

The hour-long newscast focuses on breaking news, severe weather, traffic, consumer reporting and community stories from across metro Atlanta and North Georgia, while also previewing the day’s top developing stories ahead of the evening news cycle.

In addition to live reports and weather forecasts, the newscast includes transportation updates, public safety coverage and neighborhood-focused reporting. The station said the program is designed for viewers watching on traditional television as well as its streaming and digital platforms.

Like the rest of WUPA’s local news programming, the noon broadcast is produced using augmented reality and virtual reality technology that the station says enhances weather coverage and visual storytelling for breaking news and other complex topics.

The program marks the latest expansion of WUPA’s local news lineup following the launch of its news operation last September. WANF (Channel 46) previously served as the market’s CBS affiliate before Paramount moved CBS programming to its former UPN and CW Network station.
