Streaming service Lionsgate Play Asia has inked a partnership with Nagravision that will see the two companies work on different ways to protect Lionsgate’s intellectual property across its platforms.
Specifically, Lionsgate Play Asia says it will use Nagra Multi-DRM to protect its premium content across various over-the-top applications, bringing Lionsgate Play into a broader security framework called Nagra Venturi.
Nagra Multi-DRM will serve as the foundational security product for Lionsgate Play as the streaming service works to protect programming across devices and platforms.
Lionsgate Play operates primarily in India, where streaming competition has heated up in recent years. Streaming content providers, like Lionsgate Play, are laser-focused on growing their subscriber base while simultaneously combatting the effects of content piracy on their operations.
Nagra Multi-DRM is designed to provide studio-grade content protection, reduce exposure to illegal distribution and simplify compliance with studio requirements, according to a statement from Nagravision. In addition to that tool, Lionsgate Play will also be able to add other solutions from the Nagra Venturi ecosystem over time, giving the platform a way to strengthen its security approach as piracy tactics change.
“Protecting the premium stories and entertainment we bring to our subscribers is fundamental to our growth as an OTT platform,” Rohit Jain, the Founder of Lionsgate Play Asia, said in a statement. “Partnering with Nagravision gives us a scalable, future-ready solution that not only safeguards our content across devices but also gives us the flexibility to evolve as piracy tactics continue to change.”
Jain said Nagra Multi-DRM and the broader Venturi ecosystem give Lionsgate Play a long-term foundation to protect content, strengthen subscriber trust and support a smooth viewing experience.
“Lionsgate Play is a premium service with a strong and growing audience in India,” Morten Solbakken, the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Nagravision, said on Tuesday.
Solbakken said the deployment gives Lionsgate Play a more strategic security posture while helping protect premium content, preserve revenue and support studio and distribution relationships. The agreement also extends Nagravision’s work in high-growth streaming markets as content owners and service providers look for ways to treat security as a business tool, not only as a defensive measure, the company affirmed.
