Yahoo Sports and Apple TV are teaming up on alternate broadcasts for select “Friday Night Baseball” and Major League Soccer games, bringing Yahoo Sports hosts into live sports coverage across the company’s website and app.

The altcasts will feature talent from two Yahoo Sports shows: “Baseball Bar-B-Cast” and “The Cooligans.” Yahoo Sports said the goal is to extend the analysis and personality of those programs into live game coverage while also helping fans discover Apple TV’s baseball and soccer offerings.

“We’re thrilled to pair our expert voices with Apple TV’s live coverage to give fans on Yahoo a fun new way to watch ‘Friday Night Baseball’ and MLS action,” Jarrod Schwarz, General Manager of Yahoo Sports, said. “These broadcasts will feature the insight, personality, and chemistry that make ‘Baseball Bar-B-Cast’ and ‘The Cooligans’ so popular, and we can’t wait to see that energy show up during some of the season’s biggest games.”

For Major League Baseball, “Baseball Bar-B-Cast” hosts Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman will call the first two innings of two games from the “Friday Night Baseball” package on Apple TV. The first altcast will feature the Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians on Friday, September 4, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets on Friday, September 18.

Yahoo Sports said both games have playoff implications. Mintz and Shusterman will also host pregame shows for each matchup. Video for the Yahoo Sports MLB streams will come from the main Apple TV broadcast feed. After the two-inning altcast ends, Apple TV subscribers can continue watching the full game through Apple TV.

For MLS, “The Cooligans” hosts Alexis Guerreros and Christian Polanco will call two full-match altcasts. The first will cover the 2026 Michelob ULTRA Campeones Cup on Wednesday, September 16, featuring MLS Cup champion Inter Miami CF against defending Liga MX champion Cruz Azul. The second will feature Inter Miami CF against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, October 28.

Each MLS altcast will include pregame coverage and the full match. Yahoo Sports said the soccer streams will use multiple camera angles provided by Apple TV and MLS Productions, including the main broadcast feed, referee cam and a dedicated feed shot entirely on iPhone.

Yahoo said each stream will include a direct link back to the Apple TV app, so the partnership serves as a marketing vehicle for the service, which just raised its price to $15 per month. Apple has been relatively quiet about the performance of its MLS and MLB games on its platform, with some speculating that ratings for both sports have fallen since the company took over rights from other broadcasters.

Yahoo Sports will also promote Apple TV’s “Friday Night Baseball” and MLS coverage through on-site advertising, email marketing, social promotion, “how to watch” articles and Daily Draw games.
