U.C. Davis Intercollegiate Athletics has struck a deal with Paramount‘s CBS News & Stations to bring at least five games to local broadcast television during its upcoming season.
The five games will air on KMAX-TV (Channel 31), an independent station that already offers locally-televised sports from the Sacramento Rivercats and Golden State Valkyries. The deal will make games from the University of California at Davis football team available on free broadcast TV throughout Northern California — as far north as Yuba City, east to the Sierra Nevada, south toward Modesto and west into Vacaville and Fairfield.
“This partnership puts Aggie football right in front of the fans who have supported this program for generations,” Scott Warren, the President and General Manager of KOVR (Channel 13) and KMAX-TV, said in a statement on Tuesday. “We’re proud to bring UC Davis’ biggest home games of the season to Sacramento living rooms at no cost, and we can’t wait to be part of this season with the Aggies.”
The first game kicks off on September 19 with a home turf match-up between the U.C. Davis Aggies and the Stetson Hatters. The agreement wraps on November 21 with a home game between the Aggies and the Cal Poly Mustangs.
All five broadcasts will feature full game coverage, U.C. Davis said. Hearst Television-owned KCRA (Channel 3) and KQCA (Channel 58) previously served as the local broadcast TV partner for U.C. Davis football games.
“Expanding the reach and visibility of Aggie football throughout the Sacramento region continues to be a priority for our department, and this partnership with KMAX is an important step forward,” Rock DeLuca, the Director of Athletics at U.C. Davis, said on Tuesday. “Providing free, over-the-air access to our games gives us another opportunity to grow our base of support, connect with UC Davis alumni throughout the Sacramento region and introduce even more fans to Aggie football.”
KMAX is widely carried on cable, satellite and streaming cable-like services, including Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Charter’s Spectrum (in some areas), DIRECTV, Dish Network, AT&T U-Verse, Hulu with Live TV, Fubo and Astound.
Most U.C. Davis football games are also available to stream on ESPN Plus.
