C-SPAN to launch evening version of “Washington Journal”

Public affairs network C-SPAN will expand its signature viewer call-in program “Washington Journal” with a new live evening edition beginning next Monday, The Desk has learned.

The new program, “Washington Journal Primetime,” will be hosted by Mimi Geerges and feature discussions about national politics, congressional developments and public policy following the 2026 midterm elections. Like the network’s longstanding morning program, the prime-time edition will allow viewers to participate directly by asking questions, expressing opinions and discussing current events with journalists, policy experts and other guests.

“C-SPAN has long provided a place for Americans to ask questions, share their views and hear from one another,” Sam Feist, C-SPAN’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement on Monday. “With Washington Journal Primetime, we’re bringing that conversation to the evening—and opening the door for more Americans to take part.”

Geerges joined C-SPAN in 2022 as a guest host and producer of “Washington Journal.” She previously worked as a host and Executive Producer at Government Matters Media and SiriusXM Radio.

The new program will air weeknights on C-SPAN, with additional distribution through C-SPAN Radio, the network’s website and its C-SPAN Now streaming application.

The original “Washington Journal” will continue airing live each morning from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Eastern. The program dates back to 1980, and has allowed ordinary citizens to call in and opine on public affairs matters of the day ever since.

The launch will follow C-SPAN’s multi-platform, 20-hour marathon of midterm election coverage, which starts Tuesday. That coverage will pull from C-SPAN’s own production team and newsroom partnerships across the country; C-SPAN 2 and C-SPAN 3 will simulcast commentary from leading YouTube creators on both sides of the political spectrum.
