Free streaming television service Pluto TV launched in France on Monday, bringing around four dozen French-language linear streams to the country for the first time.

The service is offering 40 channels of general entertainment, lifestyle, kids and movie programming.

“The launch of Pluto TV in France marks an important step for the growth of our company’s streaming presence in Europe,” Olivier Jollet, a senior executive at Pluto TV, said in a statement sent to reporters on Monday.

Backed by ViacomCBS, Pluto TV has been aggressively expanding into foreign markets over the last two years. Currently, Pluto TV operates variants of its domestic service in the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany and several Latin American countries.

Its state-side service continues to be its largest and most-lucrative, offering more than 200 channels of entertainment, news and sports content. It reached more than 26 million monthly viewers by the end of August, according to the company’s chief executive Tom Ryan.

Pluto TV is expected to add another country — Italy — within the next few months.
