Netflix and Amazon’s Prime Video commissioned the most original series during the first three months of 2024, according to the latest report from Ampere Analysis.

While entertainment studies are pulling back on original content spending across the board, Netflix and Prime Video continue to be among the biggest buyers of TV shows and movies that are destined for streaming-first platforms. Collectively, Netflix and Amazon accounted for 53% of all subscription video-based original commissions during Q1 2024, the report found.

Netflix and Prime Video have focused their spending on original programming that resonates with global audiences, at a time when each company is prioritizing their international expansion efforts. Those efforts are intended to help offset a peak in domestic subscriber growth.

Earlier this year, Netflix told investors it will stop disclosing data related to its subscriber growth and losses, starting in 2025.
