Fox Corporation will continue distributing its original programming and licensed shows through the Walt Disney Company’s general entertainment streaming service Hulu for a few more years.
This week, the companies reached a deal that will allow Disney to continue offering next-day episodes of Fox’s prime-time programming like “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “The Masked Signer” and “Hell’s Kitchen” through 2027.
Some hit Fox series, including animated shows like “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy,” are owned by Disney following the company’s purchase of 21st Century Fox (now 20th Television) and other assets from Fox in 2019. Disney continues to license the shows to Fox for its prime-time schedule, and that agreement allows Fox to distribute the shows through its own video on-demand catalog on cable, satellite and streaming or sublicense certain rights to other parties.
Fox was one of three original participants in the joint venture that operated Hulu upon its founding in 2007. The company has offered its prime-time shows through Hulu on a next-day basis since then, except for a small window of time when Fox delayed new shows for two weeks unless a Hulu subscriber affirmed themselves to be cable or satellite customers by utilizing associated credentials connected to their TV plans.
Last year, Fox reached an agreement with Disney to continue offering its prime-time shows through Hulu, one that involved Fox marketing Hulu as a destination to stream its shows one day after they aired on the network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed then. Disney retains the rights to the back catalog of “Family Guy,” which it offers on Hulu, and “The Simpsons,” which streams on Disney Plus.
