Fox Corporation will offer a live-streaming simulcast of Super Bowl LIX on its free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) platform Tubi this year, the company announced this week.
On Wednesday, Fox revealed its plan to offer a live stream of the National Football League (NFL) championship game on Tubi as part of its comprehensive production plans for Super Bowl LIX, which takes place on Sunday, February 9.
In years past, Fox has offered streaming simulcasts of its Super Bowl broadcasts through the Fox Sports app, but the company has never put the game on its entertainment-based FAST platform. Tubi captured national attention two years ago when Fox aired a spot called “Tubi Interface Interruption” that tricked sports fans into thinking someone had accidentally switched away from the game by launching the Tubi app on their TVs.
The Super Bowl streaming simulcast on Tubi will not require a cable or satellite login or other type of authentication, Fox said. The stream will be offered in ultra-high definition (UHD/4K0, with graphics presented in native 4K and on-field action upconverted from Fox’s high definition (HD) camera and video feeds.
Fox says its Fox Sports division will launch a “takeover” of Tubi on Super Bowl Sunday, with pre-game and post-game coverage also available to stream for free through the platform.
In addition to Tubi, Fox will offer a streaming simulcast of Super Bowl LIX through the Fox Sports app, which is free to download on most phones, tablets and smart TVs. The Fox Sports app has historically offered the only non-authenticated streaming simulcast of the Super Bowl when aired on Fox in recent years.
Super Bowl LIX will also be available over-the-air on Fox stations and affiliates across the country, with a Spanish-language simulcast offered through Telemundo and the cable sports channel Fox Deportes.
