Apple is making its streaming video service Apple TV Plus available to users of Amazon’s Prime Video in several European countries.
Starting this week, Prime members in Germany, Spain and Italy can purchase a subscription to Apple TV Plus through Prime Video, with the service joining a growing list of third-party streaming apps available within the Prime Video ecosystem.
The launch of Apple TV Plus on Prime Video in the three European countries follows a similar partnership between Amazon and Apple effectuated last year in the United States, where streamers can also buy Apple TV Plus through Prime Video.
It comes at a time when Apple is trying to drum up interest in Apple TV Plus, which houses premium original TV series and offers some live sports from Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer, but counts fewer subscribers compared to Prime Video and other services like Netflix and Disney Plus.
“We delight our customers with an outstanding entertainment offering and a first-class selection of premium content, including Amazon MGM Studios Originals, live sports, licensed films and series, as well as the ability to rent or buy thousands of films and popular series,” Dr. Christoph Schneider, the Director of Prime Video in Germany, said in a statement. “In addition, we offer over 100 additional add-on channels. The integration of Apple TV Plus and its high-quality content is a perfect complement to our extensive offering.”
“Viewers in the United States already love subscribing to Apple TV Plus through Prime Video, and we are excited to bring this offering to Germany, Italy, and Spain,” Eddy Cue, the Senior Vice President of Services at Apple, said on Wednesday. “We want to make Apple TV Plus and its award-winning library of series and films from some of the world’s best storytellers accessible to an even wider audience.”
In addition to its own Apple phones, tablets, computers and streaming TV devices, Apple TV Plus is available through the Apple TV app for Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV (Google TV), among other platforms.
