First on The Desk: Nexstar Media Group has promoted a former Comcast Advertising executive to serve as the new leader of its San Francisco-based CW Network station.

Chris Flynn is joining KRON (Channel 4) as Vice President and General Manager, the local TV broadcaster announced on Monday. Flynn will be responsible for overseeing the television station and its associated digital properties, including the website and free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel for KRON, called KRON 4 Plus (stylized as KRON4+). He reports to Matthew Rosenfeld, the Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for Nexstar.

“Chris is a dynamic and strategic leader with deep roots in the Bay Area media market,” Rosenfeld said in a statement. “His unique blend of broadcast expertise, digital fluency, and proven sales leadership makes him ideally suited to lead KRON into its next chapter of growth and innovation. He understands how to connect local audiences and advertisers across omnichannel platforms, and I am confident he will elevate KRON’s position as the Bay Area’s Local News Station.”

“I am honored to join the KRON team and lead one of the Bay Area’s most trusted and dynamic news operations,” Flynn said on Monday. “This is a station with a proud legacy and an exciting future, powered by an exceptional team, strong community ties, and a deep commitment to local journalism. I look forward to building on the momentum and continuing to deliver for both viewers and advertisers across platforms.”

Flynn is no stranger to the San Francisco Bay Area: From 2013 to 2019, he served as the Vice President and Director of Sales at KPIX (Channel 5, CBS), based out of the TV station’s Battery Street offices, right around the corner from KRON’s current location on Front Street. Before his time at KPIX, he was the General Sales Manager at KOFY-TV (Channel 20), the outlet owned by Granite Broadcasting that previously served as the market’s WB Network affiliate before converting to Merit TV earlier this year.

Over the past six years, Flynn has worked as the Head of Sales for the San Francisco region at Effectv, the Comcast-owned operation that rebranded to Comcast Advertising earlier this month.

Nexstar says Flynn brings “more than 25 years of media sales, marketing, and leadership experience to Nexstar, with a strong record of delivering double-digit revenue growth, expanding market share, and developing innovative, data-driven solutions for advertisers,” and will be instrumental in pushing KRON to the next level.

Editor’s note: A headshot for Mr. Flynn was originally distributed in black-and-white; The Desk used an artificial intelligence product to produce a colorized version, which is reproduced in the accompanying story graphic.
