The E. W. Scripps Company has hired long-time journalist Jay Gray to serve as a senior national correspondent for its streaming news channel Scripps News, the company said on Monday.
Gray has covered major breaking news and events around the world during his 22-year broadcast career, most of it spent with NBC News, where he appeared on local NBC stations and affiliates and on national broadcasts like “The Today Show” and “NBC Nightly News,” Scripps noted in a press release.
“Jay has spent his career on the front lines of some of the most important stories of our time,” said Matt Simon, the Vice President of Scripps News. “As we broaden our national presence and strengthen our ties to local communities, Jay’s expertise and precision will be invaluable.”
“Scripps News is showing that you can deliver rigorous reporting while strengthening the bond between communities and the stories they share,” Gray said in a statement on Monday. “This role offers the opportunity to deliver coverage that informs, engages and meets the moment we’re living in.”
Gray is the second veteran journalist to join Scripps News over the past few months. In January, the company hired Alisyn Camerota away from CNN; her first assignment for the network was an exclusive interview with former CNN colleague-turned-independent reporter Don Lemon, who was arrested following a protest in Minneapolis.
Scripps News is widely available on free streaming platforms, including Plex, Tubi, The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, Vizio WatchFree Plus, MyFree DirecTV, Sling Freestream, Xumo Play, YouTube and Pluto TV.
