Breezeline has formed a new relationship with DIRECTV that will give its Internet customers another option for live television, sports and entertainment programming without a satellite dish.

The cable and broadband provider said the arrangement is aimed at streaming-focused customers who want access to live sports, local channels, news and entertainment through a more flexible television package. Customers will be able to watch through a DIRECTV Gemini device or the DIRECTV app.

“We’re rethinking how our customers experience TV by prioritizing convenience and modern viewing technology,” Bart Nickerson, the Chief Commercial Officer at Breezeline, said in a statement on Tuesday. “With DIRECTV, we’re bringing live sports and entertainment to customers with the speed, strength, and reliability of our fiber-powered network.”

Nickerson said customers can plug in a DIRECTV Gemini device or log in through the DIRECTV app to begin watching.

The companies said DIRECTV’s satellite-free Signature Packages will be available with a two-year price guarantee and no annual contract requirement. Breezeline Internet customers who add DIRECTV will also receive a $5 monthly discount on their Internet bill through a Bundle & Save offer.

“Consumers want simple access to the live sports, local channels, news and entertainment they care about most,” DIRECTV Chief Operations Officer Mike Wittrock said. “This relationship gives them more choice, simplicity and value by bringing together what Breezeline and DIRECTV each do best, delivering reliable connectivity and a premium entertainment experience.”

DIRECTV is positioning the offering around its live sports features, including regional sports coverage, 4K streaming, real-time scores, highlights and personalized sports discovery. The service also includes Multiview, which allows customers to watch up to four games at once on a single screen.

Customers will also have access to a voice-activated remote, streaming apps and unlimited cloud DVR.

The partnership is the latest example of a traditional broadband company moving away from its own pay television offering in favor of partnering with a streaming TV provider while still finding ways to point customers to live TV services if they want them. DIRECTV offers a number of channels that include local news, national sports, lifestyle, knowledge, entertainment and children’s programming, among other networks.

Breezeline is part of Cogeco.
