An ongoing service disruption involving Verizon’s fiber optic network has led thousands of customers to lose access to local TV programming in the Delaware-Maryland border region.

The issue is impacting customers of Verizon Wireless along the Delmarva Peninsula, a stretch of land that covers the states of Delware, Maryland and Virginia.

WBOC (Channel 16, CBS & Fox) said its local TV station is among several in the region that is impacted by the outage. According to the station, Verizon Fios customers are unable to watch programming from WBOC and sister station WRDE (Channel 26) while the dispute continues.

“Verizon is aware of the outage and is actively working to resolve the issue,” the station said in a post on its website. “An estimated time for restoration has not been announced.”

WBOC is streaming its local newscasts through its website as an alternative for viewers who are unable to watch local TV through Verizon Fios.

The cause of the network outage was not immediately clear. Verizon began actively marketing YouTube TV as a solution for Fios customers who wanted streaming access to local TV a few years ago.
