Nexstar Media Group will produce a live, multi-market telecast of an Iowa U.S. Senate debate between Republican nominee U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson and Democratic nominee Iowa State Representative Josh Turek.
The debate, titled “Debate Night in Iowa,” will take place Tuesday, October 13 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time (10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time). The broadcast will originate from the studios of WHO-TV (Channel 13, NBC) in Des Moines.
The debate will be moderated by Amanda Krenz of WHO-TV and Tim Seaman of KCAU (Channel 9, ABC). Nexstar said both journalists have experience covering Iowa politics and statewide issues. The debate is expected to focus on topics including immigration, education, health, agriculture and technology.
“Nexstar is pleased to offer this debate as a public service to our viewers in Iowa,” Nexstar President of Broadcasting Andrew Alford said in a statement on Wednesday. “This is yet another example of Nexstar’s ongoing commitment to serve our local communities in Iowa as voters evaluate candidates in advance of the midterm election.”
The debate will air live across the following partner stations in other markets:
- KAAL (Channel 6, ABC) in Northeast Iowa
- KCAU (Channel 9, ABC) in Sioux City
- KLJB (Channel 18, Fox) in the Quad Cities
- KMTV (Channel 3, CBS) in Omaha and Council Bluffs
- KTVO (Channel 3, ABC & CBS) in Ottumwa
- KWWL (Channel 7, NBC) in Cedar Rapids
- WHO-TV (Channel 13, NBC) in Des Moines
The station group includes outlets owned or operated by Nexstar, Allen Media Group, The E.W. Scripps Company, Sinclair and Hubbard Broadcasting.
The debate will also stream live on the digital platforms of participating Nexstar television stations. Excerpts from the event will air nationally on NewsNation and The Hill.
