Comcast is raising the price of its Peacock streaming television service just in time for the Summer Olympic Games.

Starting in mid-July, Comcast will raise the price of Peacock Premium to $8 per month, while the costs of Peacock Premium Plus will increase to $14 per month. Peacock Premium includes commercial interruptions, while Peacock Premium Plus offers ad-free streaming of on-demand content.

The future price increases are $2 more than the current cost of Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus, which is priced at $6 and $12 per month, respectively.

New customers to Peacock will experience the higher prices from July 18 onward, while existing customers will be hit with the price increase on or after August 17.

The timing of the price increase coincides with the start of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which will stream live on Peacock. NBC and Telemundo have the rights to the Olympic Games in the United States; Peacock, NBC and Telemundo owned by Comcast.

It is the second time in two years that Comcast has raised the price of Peacock, which has around 34 million subscribers. Both versions of Peacock offer next-day and back episodes of most NBC programs, including “The Tonight Show,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “Law & Order” and “Saturday Night Live,” along with most live sports aired on NBC, including National Football League (NFL) games.

Peacock Premium Plus also offers access to a subscriber’s local NBC station or affiliate, and both versions include live access to Reelz and Hallmark cable channels.

Peacock joins a growing list of services that have increased prices on subscribers over the past few years. Other streaming services that have implemented price adjustments include Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, ESPN Plus, Starz, YouTube Premium and Paramount Plus with Showtime.
