Fox Corporation on Monday announced it has hired former Vimeo chief executive Anjali Sud to reprise the same role for its free, ad-supported streaming service, Tubi.
Sud will become CEO of Tubi on September 1, reporting to Tubi Media Group CEO Paul Cheesbrough. Her appointment comes about three months after the departure of former Tubi CEO Farhad Massoudi.
“Anjali is a highly accomplished executive in the technology and media industry with a passion and track record for strategic disruption and authentic leadership,” Cheesbrough said in a statement. “She is the perfect candidate to lead Tubi into a new era of creativity, growth and market leadership.”
During Sud’s time at Vimeo, the service attracted 300 million users at its peak.
She led Vimeo through several successful rounds, including one that saw the company bring in $300 million in equity funding in January 2021. Four months after that round of funding, Vimeo filed for its initial public offering.
Sud announced her departure from Vimeo earlier this month, with the company saying she was leaving to “pursue a new opportunity.”
“We are witnessing a seismic shift in where and how content will be consumed, and I believe that Tubi can become the destination for the next generation of audiences,” Sud said on Monday. “The future of streaming TV is free, and I am excited to join the Tubi team to help shape the next wave of entertainment, by giving all people access to all the world’s stories. Tubi is doing things differently in a space that is being imminently disrupted, and that is my kind of opportunity.”
Fox acquired Tubi in 2020 for $440 million. The service is widely available on smartphones, tablets and streaming TV platforms like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV) and Apple TV, among others.
