Yahoo has signed an agreement with technology provider Brightcove to support various streaming-related products across its websites and apps.
The announcement on Monday affirmed Brightcove will serve as the exclusive streaming provider for Yahoo, and will power the tech brand’s video player and related products.
“As a trusted brand delivering massive amounts of video content to consumers globally, we are thrilled to welcome Yahoo to the Brightcove family,” Marc DeBevoise, the CEO and board director at Brightcove, said in a statement. “This partnership reinforces our work to achieve our vision of being the world’s most trusted streaming technology company.”
Brightcove’s technology suite will allow Yahoo to power and monetize its current and future streaming products, which could include linear channels and a video on-demand service. Yahoo currently offers a daily live stream with financial news, which includes market coverage during the New York Stock Exchange’s regular trading hours.
“As Yahoo continues to grow and deliver more content, it was imperative for us to find a solution that could handle our global reach and deliver the highest level of performance for our users,” Matt Sanchez, the president and general manager of Yahoo’s home ecosystem division, said on Monday. “Brightcove’s streaming platform provides superior scale and performance, and their team is continuously innovating its products to help deliver the best user experience as well as meet our business objectives.”
DeBevoise affirmed Brightcove’s solutions will help Yahoo balance its “growing operations to a mass, global scale while ensuring resource optimization, financial sustainability, and profitability.”
“Our platform will help Yahoo meet its business goals by supporting this balance,” DeBevoise said. “Our service will enhance their consumers’ overall experience with the best-in-class and highest quality, most scalable, and secure streaming technology platform.”
Brightcove counts a number of other well-recognized companies among its clients, including the streaming educational platform Masterclass, the annual technology conference South by Southwest (SXSW), technology-focused news outlet Vox, the National Association of Broadcasters and the fast food chain Wendy’s.
