Comcast’s NBC Sports will offer some coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in ultra-high definition (UHD/4K) and with support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Dolby Atmos, the network confirmed this week.
The coverage will be provided in part by the Olympic Broadcasting Services, with NBC injecting its own 4K HDR camera feeds and graphics into certain events. The higher-resolution video feeds will be available on USA Network through some pay TV partners, including Altice’s Optimum, Echostar’s Dish Network, DirecTV, Fubo, Verizon Fios and YouTube TV, the company said.
Some regional cable systems that are part of the NCTC consortium will also offer support for 4K HDR feeds of Olympic games through USA Network, NBC said. Notably absent from NBC’s list is Charter’s Spectrum TV.
USA Network will focus primarily on competitions from Team USA, including soccer, basketball and beach volleyball, though some individual events like swimming and track and field will also be broadcast on the channel.
Rolling coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games on USA Network will start on July 24 and lasts through the evening hours of August 1. Most events will air live, though some will be offered on a tape delay to accommodate for the six-hour time difference between Paris and New York City.
Comcast’s standalone streaming service Peacock will offer all events live, but won’t distribute any in 4K or with HDR support, according to a person familiar with the company’s plans. The cost of Peacock Premium, which includes access to the Olympic events, will increase to $7 per month on July 18.
