More than 41 million people watched NBC’s coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games from Paris on Sunday, according to data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.
The figure included around 10.9 million American households that tuned in to watch Team USA dominate Serbia in men’s basketball early Sunday morning on NBC and Peacock, pulling in a better viewership number than the championship game between Team USA and Germany three years ago.
Later in the day, the U.S. women’s soccer team drew 4.2 million viewers to Peacock and USA Network with their win over Germany in an initial qualifying round.
Other highlights include Simone Biles leading the U.S. to grab the top score in the gymnastics qualifier, the 1-2 finish by Torri Huske and Gretchen Walsh in the 100-meter butterfly, the U.S. women’s rugby team topping Brazil, and France’s Leon Marchand winning gold in the 400-meters individual medley, the network said.
Overall, 41.5 million people tuned in to watch some or all of the Olympic Games on NBC, Peacock and NBC-owned cable channels, including USA Network, E! and CNBC. By comparison, NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games on Saturday drew 32.4 million viewers, while the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games had 28.6 million viewers.
More than 4.5 million minutes of Olympics coverage have been streamed through Peacock, NBC Sports said in a statement. The three-day total was higher than the entire 2020 Summer Olympic Games from Tokyo, which was delayed a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 Summer Olympic Games saw 4.48 billion minutes streamed through Peacock; it was the first time the streaming platform offered all Olympic events since it launched in 2020.
Sunday’s coverage on Peacock grabbed 6 million viewers throughout the day, the network said.
NBC holds the domestic telecast rights to the Summer Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games through 2032.
