The U.S. men’s basketball team scored a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris on Saturday — and, in the process, helped NBC score a massive win of its own.

The match-up between Team USA and the French’s men’s national basketball team brought in 22.7 million viewers to NBC and Peacock at the peak of the game, with the average viewership falling around 19.5 million viewers — around 7 million more viewers than those who watched the highest-rated NBA Finals game on ABC this season.

It was the most-watched gold medal game since the 1996 Summer Olympic Games from Atlanta, NBC said in a statement. It was also the most-streamed event on Peacock and other NBC digital television apps from the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, with 2.7 million viewers, the network said, citing data from Adobe Analytics.

Earlier in the day, around 9 million viewers tuned in to NBC and Peacock to watch the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team score a gold medal in the final against Brazil, NBC said, citing Nielsen and Adobe Analytics data.

NBC’s presentation of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games on Saturday had a projected total audience delivery of nearly 31 million viewers, according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics — nearly triple the audience that watched the final Saturday events of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games from Tokyo.

When including the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, NBC Universal has posted a 16-day total audience delivery of 31.3 million viewers across live events and prime-time replays, the network said.

NBC offered the 2024 Summer Olympic Games on its main broadcast network; co-owned cable channels CNBC, E!, USA Network and Golf Channel; two pop-up channels called Paris Extra 1 and Paris Extra 2; through Spanish-language networks Telemundo and Universo; and through streaming platforms Peacock, the NBC TV Everywhere Apps and NBC Sports.
