The company behind the popular Tablo digital video recorders (DVR) say its fourth-generation device is now fully compatible with Apple TV.

An app for Apple TV was promised around this time last year, when Tablo’s parent company Nuvyyo surprised the industry with the debut of the fourth-generation device, which was instantly supported on other streaming platforms like Android TV (Google TV) and Roku.

A test version of the Apple TV app entered into a beta phase in February, The Desk reported back then. The beta period allowed Nuvyyo to refine the Apple TV app before launching it more broadly. Those tests have now progressed to the point where Nuvyyo feels comfortable unleashing the Apple TV app onto the world.

“We are now on almost all major smart TVs and streaming devices,” said Bo Schuerman, the Vice President of Entertainment and Strategy at the E. W. Scripps Company, which acquired Nuvyyo two years ago. “Our loyal customers and new Tablo users have been telling us that they wanted Apple TV access, and now they have it. We expect Apple TV subscribers to embrace Tablo’s unique offerings.”

Since launching the fourth-generation device, Nuvyyo and Scripps have developed and deployed apps for Samsung and LG smart TVs, and released a four-tuner version of the DVR.

Tablo allows TV fans to watch free broadcast antenna with an antenna coupled with dozens of free, ad-supported streaming TV channels, all from a single app. The app pairs with the Tablo DVR, which pulls in the broadcast signals and allows users to record over-the-air and streaming TV channels.
