Streaming service Philo has increased the amount of free channels offered on its platform thanks to a broader distribution deal with investor-owner Paramount.
Starting this week, streamers on Philo’s free service and its premium $33 per month offering have access to CBS News 24/7, the Martha Stewart Channel, the Emeril Lagasse Channel and a marathon feed of 48 Hours.
The addition of CBS News 24/7 is particularly notable, since Philo has offered little in the way of news in the past. The service doesn’t distribute cable news networks like Fox News, CNN or MS NOW in order to keep the cost of its premium service low. Its free tier offers BBC News through an arrangement with AMC Networks, another investor-owner of Philo.
Customers who pay for the $33 per month tier will also have access to Weigel Broadcasting’s newest multicast network West, which offers western-themed shows and movies. Philo has long distributed Weigel’s other multicast networks like MeTV, MeTV Plus, MeTV Toons, Story Television and Heroes & Icons.
Philo’s $33 per month plan also includes premium cable networks from AMC Networks (AMC, IFC, BBC America, We TV, Sundance), A+E Global Media (A&E, History Channel, Vice), Hallmark Media, Paramount Skydance (Comedy Central, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, BET, Paramount Network, CMT) and the Discovery portfolio of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) channels, as well as some independent media networks like Aspire TV, Cleo TV, Revry and AccuWeather.
Philo’s subscription tier includes access to content from three premium streaming services — AMC Plus, Discovery Plus and HBO Max — at no extra cost, with add-ons available for Starz and MGM Plus.
