TuneIn, the streaming audio platform now owned by Stingray, has expanded the amount of premium sports audio content available through its service by inking a new distribution agreement with Comcast’s NBC Sports Radio.
Starting this week, TuneIn will carry NBC Sports audio simulcasts, including daily studio programming from the free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel NBC Sports Now. The lineup features shows such as “Pro Football Talk Live,” “The Dan Patrick Show” and “Chris Simms Unbuttoned,” along with select live play-by-play events.
“TuneIn’s broad reach and capabilities make it a great fit for NBC Sports Radio’s lineup of live events and daily shows,” Aileen Sokol, the Vice President of Content Partnership Development at NBC Sports, said in a statement. “This partnership allows us to further expand our distribution and bring our premier content to a wide audience.”
Streaming audio has increasingly become a strategic extension for sports programming, offering fans a flexible way to follow games and commentary in real time. As one of the few remaining categories that consistently drives live, appointment-based consumption, sports content continues to attract distribution investment across emerging platforms.
TuneIn already aggregates live audio content across a number of premium sports partners, including some professional leagues whose audio simulcasts are offered through the service. (One notable exception is NFL games, whose audio rights are held by a competitor, though TuneIn has offered NFL play-by-play outside the United States.) TuneIn has a global footprint of more than 75 million monthly active users across 122 countries, and is the leading platform for live audio across smartphones, tablets, smart speakers, smart TVs and other connected devices.
“We are excited to add NBC Sports Radio 24/7 streaming content to the TuneIn lineup,” Kevin Straley, the Chief Content Officer at TuneIn, said on Tuesday. “Their combination of best-in-class daily programming with live sports play-by-play adds meaningful depth to our extensive free sports lineup.”
