Charter Communications has launched a new streaming television app that allows Spectrum TV subscribers to watch channels in their packages on devices powered by Google TV and Android TV.

The launch of Spectrum TV’s Google TV app comes about two weeks after the company debuted a similar app for Amazon’s Fire TV devices.

The connected TV apps are available as free downloads in the Google Play Store and Amazon App Store respectively, and allows Spectrum TV subscribers to access the same channels available on their set-top boxes on Internet-connected smart TVs in other parts of their home.

“Launching the Spectrum TV App on Google TV and other Android TV OS devices expands how customers can enjoy Spectrum TV,” said Elena Ritchie, the Senior Vice President of Video at Spectrum. “It’s another step in giving customers more choice and flexibility in how and where they watch.”

The Spectrum TV app includes a multiview feature that allows subscribers to watch up to four channels from a single screen, as well as a cloud DVR feature that gives customers the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV programming.

A robust on-demand catalog with thousands of TV shows and movies is also available through the Spectrum TV app on smart TVs.

Other platforms that support the Spectrum TV app include Apple TV, Roku, Xumo, Xbox and smart TVs made by Samsung, LG and Vizio. Smartphone and tablet apps are also available.
