Comcast might be spinning out its NBC Universal division into a separate company, but the broadband and TV provider is still making moves when it comes to those assets.
On Monday, Comcast announced the ultra-premium version of its Peacock streaming service is now available to purchase from YouTube’s streaming marketplace called YouTube Primetime Channels, fulfilling a promise made when the Google-owned service forged a new content distribution agreement with NBC Universal for its YouTube TV platform.
Peacock Premium Plus costs $17 per month when purchased through YouTube Primetime Channels — the same amount that NBC charges for access to the plan when purchased directly through them.
Peacock Premium Plus unlocks a live simulcast of a user’s local NBC station or affiliate, plus commercial-free streaming of on-demand movies and TV shows. Live simulcasts of NBC sports is also available, though it still carries commercial breaks, just as it does on regular TV.
Also this week, sports-centric streamer Fubo restored dozens of NBC-owned and affiliated local broadcast stations to its platform, along with Bravo and four NBC-branded regional sports channels. Fubo started offering Telemundo in its base programming package and Spanish-language tiers around the start of the FIFA World Cup men’s soccer tournament. The channels were initially pulled late last year during a carriage dispute between the companies.
