Fox Television Stations has appointed Robert Lydick as its new Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations and Technology, tapping the long-time TEGNA executive to oversee the station group’s engineering and technology operations, the company announced on Monday.

Lydick will assume the role on July 13, reporting directly to Fox Television Stations Chief Executive Officer Jack Abernethy, the broadcaster said in an announcement. Lydick succeeds Tim Joyce, who retired at the end of June after serving as the group’s engineering chief since January 2022.

In his new position, Lydick will oversee engineering, operations and technology across Fox Television Stations’ portfolio of 29 owned-and-operated television stations.

“Robert has been a key player at TEGNA for over a decade and is a great fit for this role,” Abernethy said in a statement. “He has tremendous knowledge of our core stations business and a deep understanding of how to manage engineering and technology operations.”

Lydick joins Fox after more than 15 years with TEGNA, where he most recently served as Vice President of Station Operations and Technology. During his tenure, he also held leadership positions overseeing enterprise information technology, cybersecurity and station operations, and previously managed technology operations for TEGNA stations KSDK in St. Louis and KARE-TV in Minneapolis.

Before joining TEGNA, Lydick began his broadcasting career at Gannett, now USA Today, where he held a series of information technology and project management positions.

“Joining the Fox Television Stations is an exciting opportunity,” Lydick said. “I’m looking forward to working with an amazing team on some of local journalism’s biggest technical challenges.”

Lydick replaces Joyce, whose career at Fox spanned 27 years across multiple divisions and international operations. Before leading engineering for Fox Television Stations, Joyce served as Senior Vice President of Media and Broadcast Engineering for Fox Corporation and previously held senior technology and broadcast operations roles with Fox Networks Group in Europe, Africa and Latin America, as well as National Geographic Channels International.

Abernethy credited Joyce with helping modernize the station group’s technology infrastructure during his tenure.

“Tim is an incredibly talented executive with experience across multiple roles and has been a vital part of transforming and advancing our engineering and technology systems,” Abernethy said. “His intelligence, energy and leadership skills have impressed me since his first day here and we wish him all the best on a well-deserved retirement.”

In a farewell message, Joyce reflected on his nearly three decades with the company.

“After 27 years at Fox — from Fox Latin American Channels to National Geographic, Fox International Channels Europe, Fox Tech and Fox Television Stations — I’ve learned that while companies evolve and technology changes, it’s the people who make the journey unforgettable,” Joyce said.

Fox Television Stations owns and operates 29 full-power television stations across the United States, including outlets in nine of the nation’s 10 largest television markets.
