South Korean telecom LG Uplus (stylized as LG U+) has tapped tech developer Bango’s proprietary Digital Vending Machine to power a subscription management platform offered to its broadband customers, the companies announced on Tuesday.
The agreement will see the Digital Vending Machine integrated into Udok, the marketplace that allows LG Uplus customers to add on ancillary services, which will give those customers greater access to global and local subscription products.
LG Uplus has more than 30 million wireless subscribers in South Korea, nearly all of whom have access to the benefits of Udok as part of their service.
Bango said its technology will allow LG Uplus to add subscription providers and introduce new bundles more quickly while managing upgrades, downgrades, cancellations and promotional offers through a standardized platform.
The Digital Vending Machine also provides LG Uplus with information about how customers interact with different subscriptions, bundles and promotions, which the telecom can use to adjust its offerings.
“Customer needs are constantly evolving, and we want Udok to evolve with them,” Yongsung Cho, Head of Partnership Business at LG Uplus, said in a statement. “The Digital Vending Machine from Bango gives us the agility to expand our subscription offering quickly and efficiently.”
Bango markets its Digital Vending Machine to telecoms, banks, retailers and other companies that resell third-party subscription services. The LG Uplus agreement expands the platform’s presence in East Asia.
“LG Uplus is building a compelling subscription proposition with Udok, giving customers access to a wide range of services and offers through a single platform,” Bango CEO Paul Larbey said.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The deal with LG Uplus adds to a growing roster of clients that are using Bango’s Digital Vending Machine to help unlock added value for services that collect monthly or regular payments.
Other clients include Comcast’s Xfinity services, Charter’s Spectrum services, Verizon, T-Mobile and Optimum, according to marketing materials and people familiar with the matter.
LG Uplus operated as LG Telecom until 2010. The company is majority-owned by LG Corporation, but is operated separate from its global electronics division.
