RedSquid TV, a technology developer of white-label solutions for pay television providers, has formed a strategic partnership with fellow developer Bango to help its telecommunications clients take advantage of direct billing and unique subscription bundle solutions.
The agreement combines RedSquid’s operator-grade television platform with Bango’s Digital Vending Machine, a subscription bundling platform used by telecom and other service providers. The companies said the integrated product will allow operators to offer consumers a single place to discover, activate, manage and pay for digital subscriptions through the television.
Those services include entertainment, gaming, fitness, education, artificial intelligence tools and other subscription products, all tied to a customer’s existing relationship with their broadband, mobile or pay TV provider, the companies affirmed on Wednesday. RedSquid TV and Bango plan to demonstrate their offering at an industry trade show in September.
“This exciting new partnership creates another route through which (telecoms) can use the DVM to bundle subscriptions,” Bango CEO Paul Larbey said in a statement. “The subscription economy has fundamentally changed how consumers access digital services.”
Larbey said households increasingly want one place to discover, activate and manage subscriptions, while operators already have trusted billing relationships with millions of customers.
RedSquid TV CEO Trevor Neal said the partnership is intended to help operators move beyond connectivity.
“For years operators have invested billions building world-class broadband and mobile networks, yet much of the value created inside the connected home has been captured by others,” Neal said on Wednesday. “The television has become the most important digital platform in the home, but too often operators simply provide the pipe.”
Neal said the partnership allows operators to “own the television experience” while monetizing the subscription economy tied to it.
